American Hickory: The SD9 is made from North American hickory wood. Hickory is denser, harder and heavier than maple, while also being more elastic than oak. The wood absorbs a large part of the vibration energy on impact, combining this property with a resilient construction. Dimensions: The SD9 has a length of 16.25 inch / 41.27 cm and a diameter of 0.610 inch / 1.55 cm. This makes the grip slightly thicker than that of a 5B. The model is also slightly longer than a 5B stick. Barrel-shaped wood tip: The tip is made of wood and has a barrel shape. Together with the relatively short transition, known as the taper, this design is one of the characteristic features of the SD9. Feel and sound: The relatively short taper combines with the thicker grip and the barrel-shaped tip. This construction provides a full, fat sound on drums combined with surprisingly fast handling. Manufacturing and matching: The drumsticks are computer-controlled turned and precisely sanded. A computer system analyses weight, tone colour or frequency and balance before correspondingly matched pairs are brought together. The hickory is dried to a residual moisture content of 10 to 12 percent.
