Trierer City Coffee Finca Yuri Colombia 100% Arabica Whole Bean (350 g, Fruity)

For many years, the Trier coffee connoisseurs have supported a small, only three hectare finca in Colombia. The Trier city coffee, which is created in successful cooperation with the family-run Finca Yuri, is the ideal example of how we could also help other coffee farmers and behave each other fairly and successfully. We have managed to unite over 20 coffee farms in our project region around the place of Ciudad Bolivar within one cooperative during the project. With the common goal of protecting nature while producing higher quality coffee in larger quantities, co-ordinated activities have been started that will continue to work. Thanks to the initial effect of the project "Yuri" and the reliable cooperation, we have managed to launch a project with KfW/DEG for the qualification of small farmers in 2017. We successfully completed this project in 2021. Why such a project? One of the main problems of smaller farms with lower amounts of coffee is the expensive and so far distant further processing of green coffee. The local quality character (comparable to the location of a wine) of smaller amounts of green coffee is often diluted in large coffee grinders. Now a suitable coffee grinder with additional quality laboratory is directly on site in the growing area. The result: small farmers in particular can offer high-quality and individual taste nuances for international export. In the first step, over 80 participating small farmers and their families were trained in sustainable coffee cultivation. Based on the principles of permaculture (concept aimed at the creation of permanently functioning sustainable and natural cycles), natural interactions are shown in practice to grow permanently quantitatively and high-quality coffee of the most diverse varieties. In the second step, Mondo del Caffè provided the participating farmers with modern sorting and processing machines. This ensures that the farmers can process and take over their own varietal coffee specialities directly for export in short distances. In the last step, the family businesses were trained in sales and marketing in order to no longer be dependent on large buyers, but can achieve better prices directly with the end buyer. For coffee importers such as Mondo del Caffè, who buy the green coffee beans directly from the farms, this project is also a great success. On the one hand, the farmers achieve a higher yield, on the other hand, a greater variety and amount of roasted coffee becomes available. CORONA: It is clear here that Corona also and especially in Colombia had a devastating impact on the entire supply chain. The food supply in villages, as well as in our region, was partly not possible. International supply chains of materials to our region were interrupted for months and travel to the project area from abroad was hardly possible. As a consequence, the Colombian economy has collapsed into historically unique scope in 2020. In 2021, social unrest occurred as a result. Our project with a focus on the decentralized and strategic support of small farmers was able to significantly counter this development. Through project training, food was increasingly grown on coffee farms mainly for their own use in higher quantities. Through the village solidarity, our coffee farmers have distributed excess food to distressed villagers. Although the Colombian economy has collapsed to an unprecedented extent as described, in stark contrast, our coffee farmers were able to generate an unprecedented yield in the last project year 2020. Conclusion: Trier has a city coffee that can now taste everyone: from farmer to consumer!!! The consumers who enjoy roasted coffee here in our region now have even more choice in the usual top quality to discover the typical taste of individual Colombian farms and coffees. Always with the knowledge that every coffee mug drunk here that makes farmers in our coffee region happy and proud. The city coffee "Finca Yuri" is a blend of two layered coffees of the Antioquia region in Colombia. On the one hand, the Hacienda El Encanto Estate and the Finca Yuri. It is a medium-bodied, multi-faceted very expressive coffee, with hints of dark chocolate and floral nuances. The coffee is refined in our roasting factory, traditionally and gently using the drum roasting process, which underlines its characteristics. It has a medium acid and body, we recommend it especially for classic filter processes or the fully automatic coffee machine. This coffee is a joint project of the local Agenda 21, the Weltladens/Trier and the coffee roastery. Mondo del Caffè. This is where the guiding principles come together: fairness, transparency and sustainability – and this is also really delicious.
