When the rod is in the gripping mechanism, the locking mechanism rotates over it and snaps into place to hold the rod in position. When on a take the rod is picked up then the locking mechanism opens after which the gripping mechanism opens. The Butt Lock Xtreme ensures grip at any angle at which the rods are placed.
