PoE splitters are used whenever a surveillance camera, access point or other device is only to be supplied with power via the data line, but the device is not PoE-capable. The passive PoE injector cable has an RJ45 input for the Ethernet signal and a 5.5mm DC socket for the power supply of the PSE device - Output is an RJ45 connector for both signals. The Ethernet signal is transmitted from the passive PoE splitter to the PSE device via a cable with RJ45 plug and the power connection via a cable with 5.5mm DC plug. If the device used can be operated with real, active PoE, the passive PoE splitter cable does not have to be used - the PSE device receives the power via the LAN cable. The PoE splitter complies with the Fast Ethernet standard at up to 100 MBit/s and can be used with Windows, Mac OS, Linux and Sun regardless of the operating system.
